Woburn Electrical School Scholarship

Woburn Memorial High School Graduating senior Seamus O’Brien has recently received the $2,400 Scholarship to the Woburn Electrical School of Code and Theory.  Seamus had graduated in June Cum Laude from WMHS.  While there he also excelled on the football, wrestling and lacross teams.  He will be studying this fall at Bunker Hill College in the NSTAR program.

The Scholarship is in the name of George Williams the founder of the School.  The school was begun by the former Electrical Inspector of the City of Woburn in 1981. It had run through June of 2005 at the Plympton School.  The School has brought thousands to their Electrical and Alarm licenses.  George was subsequently an Inspector for the National Recognized Testing Lab Intertek under the ETL Label.

George has recently retired completely and is living on Cape Cod with his lovely wife Vi.

Nine years ago George handpicked Bob McGann to be the director of the school.  Bob is beginning his tenth year this fall as Director /Owner/Instructor.  The School is now located at the WMHS at 88 Montvale Ave Woburn.  Bob says “The facility is so high tech and clean that we are so lucky to be there with such a cooperative group involved.  We hope we can continue there for many years to come.”

Bob himself served as Electrical Inspector in Woburn from 1992-1997.  Since that time he has served the City of Cambridge in the same position.  He has served on the Massachusetts Electrical Code Advisory Committee as an Inspector Representative since 1999.  They review the National Electrical Code Changes and advise the Board of Fire Prevention Regulations which promulgate the Mass Electrical Code.  Bob has served multiple positions for the Municipal Inspector Association and the International Association of Electrical Inspectors.  These include but are not limited to the Chairman of each organization, Board of Directors and Scholarship committee.  He has served on a National Code Committee for NFPA on the 2005 and 2008 codes as an IAEI representative.
