CLASS D - SYSTEM TECHNICIAN LICENSE

An applicant for a System Technician License shall provide evidence satisfactory to the Board of having completed practical experience totaling a minimum of 4000 hours obtained in no less than two years of installing fire warning or security systems.

300 Hour Course Required as a Prerequisite
to Sit for System Technician Examination

In order to qualiy to sit for the System Technician (Class D) Electrician examination; each apprentice whose electrical work experience can be properly documented shall complete a 300 clock hour (75 clock hour / Module) course as a prerequisite for examination as a Systems Technician. Said course will be divided into 75 hour modules. The 300 hour course shall include, but not be limited to the following subjects:

a)	Module I:
	1.		Jobsite and Electrical Safety
	2.		Introduction to the National Electrical Code and Process
	3.		DC / Alarm Theory
	4.		Basic Math
b)	Module II:
	1.		Electrical Bonding and Grounding
	2.		Low Voltage Systems and Controls
	3.		Fire Warning and Security Systems
	4.		Design and Testing (NFPA 72)
c)	Module III:
	1.		National Electrical Code Application of DC Theory
	2.		Massachusetts Electrical Code and Amendments (527 CMR 12.00)
	3.		Wiring Methods
d)	Module IV:
	1.		Fiber, Data and Communications Wiring and Systems
	2.		Massachusetts Laws and Regulations Pertaining to Electrical Wiring
	3.		Conduct of Technicians and Apprentices Including Inspection Requirements
	4.	General Review of all Subjects Covered

The Board may set additional course requirements by Board policy statements issued periodically as developments in the profession so require.
